PHILOSOPHY
You are an individual and your training needs are as unique as you are. I build all training plans from scratch for each individual athlete based on your goals, your experience, and your current fitness level. Your training plan will incorporate current, scientifically proven training dynamics to maximize physiological adaptation while minimizing training time. We will identify strengths and opportunities to make you a stronger runner. Also, I emphasize communication and collaboration as a key part of the coach/athlete relationship. We will develop positive training habits through proactive communication, check-ins, and listening to and responding to your body. You will see your progress as we track your goals – and we can do this all while maintaining balance between training and life.
COACHING EXPERIENCE
I’ve coached professionally since 2022. In that time, I have helped dozens of runners to reach their goals. I’ve helped athletes reach the finish line at big races such as Leadville 100, Javelina Jundred, Tahoe 200, Arizona Monster 300, and more. If you put in the work, we’ll get you to the finish line. I’m experienced helping any skill level–new runners, those returning to the sport after hiatus, and experienced runners alike. I have experience coaching male and female athletes and all age levels.
I am uniquely positioned to coach others because of my success in coaching myself. I’ve finished some of the toughest 100, 200, and 300 mile races in the country, oftentimes with multiple races in quick succession. I know how to prepare for distance, speed, and/or volume, and I will help you do the same. The things I’ve learned from doing are immense; I can tell you firsthand the importance of dialing in race nutrition, taking care of your feet, integrating strength training, how to prep your crew, what to do when hallucinations get bad, and so much more.
ABOUT ME
Running is my life and I love every moment of it. My endurance running journey began in 2016 when I decided to check off an item on my bucket list–run a marathon. I didn’t know anything about endurance running, trained poorly, hadn’t a clue about pacing or nutrition, and wore a cotton t-shirt on race day. Yes, I got to the finish line, but it was ugly (and included plenty of walking). I enjoyed the challenge, however, and kept at it. Over the next few years I set my sights on harder and longer races until I toed the start line of my first 100-miler in 2020. I’ve never looked back.
Now, much of my life revolves around running. I’ve earned over a dozen belt buckles (awarded for finishers of 100 mile races or longer) and countless other medals. I’ve explored the beauty of the US through racing and tackles some of the most challenging races around (see Racing History). Coaching is my full-time job. In addition to coaching runners to achieve their goals, I travel the country working and volunteering at some epic races (Bigfoot 200, Moab 240, and many others), I’m a race medic, sell running shoes and gear, and study running professionally through certification programs and continued learning.
I’m still VERY active as an ultrarunner. This year, I’ve already finished the Arizona Monster 300 and have 10 ultramarathons on my schedule including:
- Mace’s Hideout 100
- Copper Kings 100
- Ouray 100
- Crazy Mountain 100
- Bigfoot 200
- Wasatch 100
- Run Rabbit Run 100
- Bear 100
- Moab 240
- Javelina Jundred
BIG INFLUENCES
I enjoy the methodical precision of Jack Daniels and the inquisitive approach of Jason Koop. I’ve also been influenced by some of the sports greats, especially Courtney Dauwalter, David Roche, and Karl Meltzer. Perhaps even more impactful have been the personal relationships I’ve formed with local Colorado Springs athletes, coaches, and race directors.
RACING HISTORY
I’ve run over 2 dozen marathon-or-longer races with over a dozen buckles earned, however 2025 will be my biggest year yet. I’m running 200, 240, and 300 mile races and eight 100s as well.
Notable finishes:
- Arizona Monster 300-miler
- Bigfoot 200 (46000’ gain) **200-milers are wild. If you want to peer deep inside your soul and learn an uncomfortable amount about yourself, run a 200**
- 2x Ouray 100 (42000’ gain)
- 2x Cloudsplitter 100 (24000’ gain)
- 2x Run Rabbit Run 100 (22000’ gain)
- Quad Rock 50 (11000’ gain)
- 5x Pikes Peak Marathon (7800’ gain)

Brendan Rice –
David coached me to finish my first ultra (50-mile trail race) and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a running coach. From the start, David was incredibly thoughtful & deliberate with his approach to my training plan – providing the perfect mix of personalization and expertise. One of my favorite parts of working with David was that the training was varied & flexible to my schedule. He helped me with the training, recovery, nutrition, and mindset going into the race. Looking forward to the next one!

As the military father of an avid runner, I’ve had a lot of exposure to running coaches. I can say, without a doubt, David has one of the best coaching approaches I’ve ever seen. He is competent, enthusiastic, encouraging, mindful, and accessible. We connected late in the training cycle for my first ultra, but I’m convinced I would not have finished if we hadn’t. Aside from this he is an exemplar of complete superhumanity and world class athleticism. And, David is someone you’d love to grab a beer with, which is perhaps most important of all.
Alec Saslow –
I began working with David about 6 months before my most ambitious race, the Leadville 100. He helped me to craft a training plan that fit my goals and worked into my busy life — and was ready to quickly pivot and adapt when injury or schedule became an issue. Besides being an absolute student of ultrarunning, David is a kind, empathetic, and values-driven coach that’s a pleasure to talk to and make it easy to confide in. He’s also an absolute badass and can call on his own experiences in a way that motivates and provides context to the amazing, absurd sport that is ultra-running. Go with David! He’s the best.
Bert Hestroffer –
David is a positive enthusiastic coach that has guided me to progress quickly by being tuned in to my workouts and always there with feedback and answers. I look forward to our future as athlete and coach with great excitement and confidence.
Carter Bishop –
David has been a huge help in my running goals. David coached me threw a finish at the 2025 Tahoe 200. Very knowledgeable and educated with all things running. Highly recommend David to anyone looking for a coach.
Leandre Kailani –
I personally don’t usually leave reviews, but I’ll leave them here. I wish I could rate 6 stars out of 5 stars, but I cannot. The rating is up to 5 stars. He is a great trail running coach, and he shows a lot of patience, motivation, and enthusiasm. I had a rough summer, with a lot of ups and downs in trail races. But his positive motivation and encouragement mean a lot! I will highly recommend him.
Thank you Coach David.

David’s been a great help in my running journey. He’s very meticulous in his planning and exercise choice. For race prep, he does a phenomenal job helping to break down the upcoming course and how to approach the different segments. He’s also been very adaptable when it comes to working through/around injuries. Cannot recommend him enough.
Paul Shippey –
Great coach, very attentive. Super nice to work with. Highly recommend.
Candace T. –
I can’t recommend David enough as a coach. I have had other coaches I’ve worked with in the past, but none as responsive as David. He understands how to modify workouts and how to tell me to rest (I’m prone to injury). He is available whenever needed to talk on the phone or email. This will be my third crack at a 100 mile race in October. I feel confident that as long as I get the runs in, I will be able to get a finish.
James T Barnum –
David is an excellent attentive coach with the resume to back up his claims. While I was not able to complete my goal due to personal issues, I will absolutely be contacting him again once I am on the mend. Great coach, with a great tech interface connecting my Garmin using Final Surge. You can’t do better.
Jason –
I’ve really enjoyed my time working with Coach David.
I’ve been working with him to prep for some big mile ultras, with one starting early spring ’25. By this time last year my self-training started my 2024 off riddled with pains, inconsistent training, and too many questions.
David has been great in helping me build consistency not only in my runs but also with my strength workouts and race planning. He’s been very receptive to my ideas for this year while still helping to keep me focused.
I’m excited to start the year off feeling strong and ahead of where I thought I would be. I can’t appreciate Coach David enough!

Coach David is awesome! He took the time and patience to understand my running goals. I wanted to properly train for my upcoming ultramarathon instead of just winging it and David provided a structured plan that was flexible based on my schedule, injuries and other commitments. He introduced me to many new facets of running and is a wealth of knowledge. Incorporating the right mix of training, along with the accountability and encouragement that David provided helped greatly with my mindset and gave me a greater sense of achievement. Can’t wait to see what next year brings.

David has been an awesome coach — always adapting training based on my interest in other sports, injuries/illness, and my personal goals. I have so enjoyed working with him!
Eric Ottman –
David has been an excellent coach, and his knowledge, experience, and encouragement have been instrumental in helping me push further and improve each day. David’s passion for the sport and his desire to help his athletes achieve their goals is apparent in every interaction I’ve had with him. I’m looking forward to building on this momentum into 2025!
Andrew Phillips –
Being new to trail running and the ultra marathon game, I knew I had a ton of room for grown and much to learn. I ran a few ultra marathons on my own and was successful but never totally satisfied with training and execution of my goals. In January 2024 I was received word I got into the Leadville Trail 100 mile run. That same month I faced several different injuries to my left leg/knee. I met David and decided I needed up preparing for LT100. David was amazing with communication and preparation for weekly training plans to get me ready for Leadville while also letting my body recover appropriately. Without David I feel I would not be able to say I succeeded in completing Leadville 100. He was instrumental in my success and a huge asset to my new found love for this sport. I would HIGHLY recommend David for anyone seeking coaching. Already planning through another year of goals and strategies!!
Rebecca Boudreaux –
I’ve been an ultra runner for a while but I’ve hesitated to use a coach. I tried once before and the experience was expensive and useless. But I’ve struggled to regain strength and speed since back surgery a couple of years ago, so I decided to give David a try. My experience with him as a coach has been a complete different story than my last coach. David is responsive, supportive, firm, and so positive and helpful. I’ve already seen an improvement in my pace and I feel stronger. Mentally and physically. I am confident that under his guidance I will finish my first hundred miler in a couple of months!
Presley –
I’ve been working with David for a few months and cannot recommend him enough. He’s guided me through increased volume and mental blockers along the way. He looks at running through a different lens that others, which is an inspiration in itself.
Michael Campos –
Cannot recommend enough. Coach David has been instrumental not only in my training progress but also in my confidence to pursue greater and more difficult challenges. He is extremely prompt and understanding. I have texted him in the middle of evening runs and gotten a response before it’s over. I am working on my second marathon and I have no doubts that Coach David will help me reach my goals this year and for years to come.

David’s coaching has been a game-changer for my trail running in just a few months. His holistic approach goes beyond just logging miles – he incorporates strength training, emphasizes mobility/injury prevention, and has provided guidance on fueling strategies – all of which keep me running strong! David’s enthusiasm for coaching, constant encouragement, and insightful feedback keep me motivated and seeing strong results. I can’t recommend him enough!
Rachel –
David is an incredible coach that I’d recommend to anyone! He’s very willing to meet you wherever you’re at in your running journey and help push you towards your goals. He’s encouraging, realistic, and genuinely cares about his athletes. He also puts a ton of thought into your individualized training plan and maintains great communication throughout the whole process. An 11/10 coach!
Ashley Wroblewski –
I’ve been working with David the past couple months as I train for my first 50M and 100M this year. He is very knowledgeable and you can tell he really cares. I appreciate the open communication and look forward to keep working with him! Coach David is awesome!
Carrie –
I’ve been working with David for the past few months now and have been nothing but impressed. He’s an amazing coach who genuinely cares about the success of his athletes, is very knowledgeable, and is always eager to help you reach your goals. I’d 100% recommend him for anyone looking to get back into running, looking to go longer distances, or wanting guidance and advice from a super supportive and enthusiastic coach. Super excited to keep working with him!
Joseph Del Valle –
My experience with David as my coach has been absolutely amazing. I’ve had a few other coaches through the past years, but he has hands down been the best. Very detail oriented and the communication from him has been top notch. I learn more in a 5 minute conversation with David than I have with some of the coaches I used for years. I highly recommend him to anyone that’s looking to get a coach. If you’re a rookie or a seasoned athlete, David will be a great fit for you. I look forward to the coming years with David as my coach.
Fabian Brunner –
Coach David has been awesome. I worked with another program for the past year and I’m so happy to have switched. David not only has a wealth of knowledge, but is open and honest about what he doesn’t know.. but then will find out. So excited to continue working with him as we aim to accomplish some of my trail goals for 2024, I know I’ll succeed under his guidance. Highly recommend Coach Everson!
Steven Deckard –
David has been a fantastic coach helping support me on my adventure getting back into running with a focus on ultras. He is experienced, knowledgeable, and up to date on the latest research to optimize performance. Regular and open communication has made for trust in the training plan. David is a great coach whether you’re looking to PR, run further than ever, or just have a coach approach training with enthusiasm.
